For a mature artist, there is always a deviation from the normal work. It drives the creative process and accounts for changes in style, direction, and work habits. I have spent much of my career stepping between the conceptual and the practical aspects of art and design. Shifting into a collegiate administrative role and having children that suddenly had a use for a father prompted a pursuit of a new direction.
My son needed to learn why math is important, and I thus had a new challenge. So we built a boat…which lead to several other works, an archetype of living and learning, and a better understanding of design, craftsmanship, and perhaps what the Bauhaus was really all about.
